Simple search text not found!? (2000/SR-1)

I start with cells containing values similar to these:

    T. BradyP (NE)
    J. HornQ (NO)

I'm trying to strip out the last letter prior to the open paren - but only if it's capitalized.
But Excel refuses to find them!
For "Find what" I put "P (" (without the double quotes) and for replace with I put " ("
I select "Match case" and DEselect "Find entire cells only".
It doesn't matter whether I search by rows or columns - it simply does not work.

    HELP!

Are those values imported from another application? If so, the space before the opening parenthesis might be a special kind of space, for example a non-breaking space (Alt+0160). Searching for a space will not find a non-breaking space.

Would it be feasible to search for "P?(" without the quotes (that is, P followed by any character and an opening parenthesis)?

I shoulda thoughta that! You were right on - the text was copied and pasted from an IE browser window. The wildcard trick was just what he doctor ordered.

    Thanks for the help!
