    BRAIN TWISTER FOR THE DAY

Okay, my brainiac friends. . . let's see if you get this.
But, please,be gentle if you get it right away!!

There are three words in the English language that end in "gry".
ONE is angry and the second is hungry.
EveryONE knows what the third ONE means and what it stands for. EveryONE uses them everyday,
and if you listened very carefully, I've given you the third word.

    What is it?
    __________gry?
    Regards,
    Rudi

Re: BRAIN TWISTER FOR THE DAY

    looking at it logically, it would have to be <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">language</span hide>, no ?
    Cheers, Claude.

    <img src=/S/bravo.gif border=0 alt=bravo width=16 height=30>, i take a <img src=/S/bow.gif border=0 alt=bow width=15 height=15> Claude.
I see I actually posted the wrong version of the riddle....and still you answered correctly!!!

For those that want the original version, and want to grind out an answer!!!...
"Think of words ending in -GRY. Angry and hungry are two of them. There
are only three words in the English language. What is the third word? The
word is something that everyone uses every day. If you have listened
carefully, I have already told you what it is."

    Don't think too hard! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Re: BRAIN TWISTER FOR THE DAY

I answered it correctly because, believe it or not, last weekend, we had a think-tank over a couple of bottles of wine on the very riddle, a friend of mine had it emailed to her. I presume it's making the email rounds at present ?

But, logically, all other words ending in gry in english are no longer used, so, the answer had to be elsewhere <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
    Cheers, Claude.

Re: BRAIN TWISTER FOR THE DAY

<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">The key parts of the riddle as given in Rudi's first post are:
1/ There are three words in the English language that end in "gry"
2/ if you listened very carefully, I've given you the third word. What is it?
The riddle was not saying that there are 3 words in "The English Language" so for this version of the riddle "language" is not the answer.
This version of the riddle is a bit ambiguous but the answer that best fits would be the third word of the riddle.

The version of the riddle given in Rudi's later post where the answer is "language" is not ambiguous.</span hide>

That'll be part of the nebulous memory of my previous encounter with this puzzle / riddle, I suspect <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Re: BRAIN TWISTER FOR THE DAY

    I remember spoiling this puzzle once before <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15> with these obscurities:
    <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">
    aggry
    ahungry
    anhungry
    eard-hungry
    yird-hungry
    </span hide>

Of course, these do violate the stipulation: The word is something that everyone uses every day.

    I was originally going to give the answer "chockpugry", a word I use everyday. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Chockpurgy is an obsure term, not often heard nowadays. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
