Hi,

Using Windows XP on a dual CPU PIII/500 system I cannot get the computer to shutdown (the motherboard, an ASUS P2B-D with the latest ACPI BIOS 013) is ACPI compliant and did do this under Server 2000) and get the shutdown message "it is now safe to turn off your computer" at which point I physically turn off the system. I've tried to force an ACPI Multiprocessor HAL during install with no luck (it sticks at the "setup is starting Windows XP" message), I haven't been able to force an upgrade of the HAL under Windows itself (currently it is MPS Multiprocessor PC") and I have no access to the Advanced Power Management tab under CP/Power Options. So I wonder if anyone knows a way to get the system to shut down without using the power switch?

Thanks
