Dissappearing Excel Options Dialog (seems to be all?)

Hi, I have been having a intermittent problem where the Options dialog box refuses to display. i.e. Tools->Options
Some spreadsheets I open seem to allow access to the Options dialog box and then other spreadsheets don't! When I open a spreadsheet that blocks access to the Options, other spreadsheet that follow also seem to have access blocked! The blocking spreadsheets do not seem to have any VB code that I can see that is changing this access!
Even rebooting the PC and creating a new spreadsheet does not restore access to the Options.
Any help would be really appreciated.
    Regards
    Brian.

Jan Karel Pieterse's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in XL,290455>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in XL<!/post> is worth looking into.

In addition to Hans' recommendation, you might want to check your system for viruses. I seem to remember a virus with these symptoms a while back.

    Thanks for the suggestion, however...
The PC's (yes more than one!) that have exhibited this problem are protected behind corporate firewalls and by Trends Micros Scan antivirus software that is constantly kept up to date.
    I have not picked up any indication that a virus is present on these PC's. <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16>

Re: Dissappearing Excel Options Dialog (seems to be all?)

The Microsoft Links did not cover this particular problem.
I have tried the solutions from the "Systematic Approach..." post but the only time I was able to get access to the "Options" was when I started Excel in the "Safe" mode.
There was no files in the XLSTART folder, and I renamed the .XLB file, still no access to the Options page!
    Any other ideas out there?
    Regards
    Brian.

Sounds like you may have to remove Excel's entries from the registry and reinstall Excel.

Before you do that, try this first:

    Start, run,

    Excel.exe /unregserver

    Then repeat, but now:

    start, run,

    excel.exe /regserver

Re: Dissappearing Excel Options Dialog (seems to be all?)

I have tried the unregserver/regserver but to no avail!
I was unsure on how to proceed with removing the Excel entries in the registry, as there seems to be heaps of entries to do with Excel...
I tried uninstalling Excel and then reinstalling it... works fine when you are logged in as Administrator, but when logged in as the user no access to Tools, Options.
When I tried the users login on another system with the same version of Excel, they had access to the Tools Options dialog box.
It seems to be restricted to their login on their PC only!
Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated!
    Regards
    Brian.

In that case I'd suggest to remove the user from that system and after that put it back in again.
Might need an admin to do that I guess.
