Windows Explorer Search Error (WinXP Home SP2)

Whenever I click a Search in Win Explorer, I get "Unexpected error. Action could not be completed." The Event Viewer shows nothing. The MS KB apparently knows nothing, but I don't trust that search engine anymore, since someone on here inevitably has a link to a KB that didn't show up in my searches!
    Help welcomed!

Although it's not the same error message, take a look at MSKB article Search Companion Error When You Search for Files and Folders.

Several fixes for search problems can be found under 'Why doesn't Search work?' on http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm.

BINGO!!! You are super, as usual!!!
Honest, I SEARCHED the darn KB for Search Companion.... (I had already tried Kelly's various "fixes" without joy.)

I don't guess you know WHY it happened? (My AV and AS's are up to date, and I have the latest SPs. Hmm--maybe THAT's how it happened--guess I can always blame MS!)

I'm afraid it is almost always impossible to find out why such things happen. They just do sometimes...
