    Excel Formula (Excel 2000)

I am trying to write a formula that will sum the range DAG!H2AG!H16 of sheet name DAG if the month is "1" in range DAG!A2AG!A16. DAG is the name of my orders sheet and I want to put the totals on a summary sheet in a column for the month of January. Using the formula editor it created the following formula and I get an error with it. Can you tell me what is wrong. SUMIF("MONTH(!A2AG!A16)","=5",DAG!H2AG!H22). Columns A2:A16 are formated as mm/dd/yy.

    Re: Excel Formula (Excel 2000)

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

There are several problems with your formula:
    - The first argument to SUMIF should be a range, not a string.
    - You cannot compute the month number within SUMIF.
    - You want to test for month = 1, but the second argument in your formula is "=5".
    - Formulas must begin with = (you probably have that in your workbook.)

If necessary, insert a column to the right of column A.
In cell B2, enter the formula =MONTH(A2).
    Fill down to B16.
    Change your formula to

    =SUMIF(DAG!B2:B16,1,DAG!H2:H16)

Note that you can refer to a multicell range on another sheet as DAG!B2:B16, you don't have to use DAG!B2AG!B16.

    Thanks, that solved my problem.
