    Crashed System (9.0.4402 SR-1)

Access very kindly crashed on me when I was saving a query. Subsequently when I try to go back into the DB I get "The Microsoft Jet Database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change data at the same time"

I've re-booted my PC twice to see if I can clear this, but to no avail.

Any ideas on how to get back in? Compact and repair doesn't work either.

    Cheers,

    Niven

One other possibility is that there is a lock at the system level - check for the existence of a file with the same name as your database, but with an extension .LDB - it should be in the same folder as your database. If such file exists, try to delete it and then see if you can get into your database - I would import everything to an empty database if it does, as any crash when you are saving an Access object makes the database suspect.

Options, to be tried in this order:

    1. ACC2000: Jet Compact Utility Available in Download Center. This tool can repair some databases that the internal Compact and Repair can't handle.

    2. Import as many database objects as possible into a new blank database.

    3. Try to import the tables into Excel, using Data | Get External Data | New Database Query... This won't help to retrieve forms, reports etc.

    4. Hopefully you have a recent backup.

Many thanks for the help guys, unfortunately the DB seems lost as it still thinks that I, or another user is attempting to change the same data at the same time and the JetComp utility comes back with "Error Compacting Database" and stops.

At worst I only lost a mornings work, but as you can guess I'm none too impressed!

    Cheers,

    Niven
