Auto Save an Attachment on Receipt (Outlook 2002 SP3)

    Dear List

Is there any way to automatically save an attachment on receipt of an email.

I have an email with a data attachment that comes in daily which I save onto a server manually. This data file then triggers off a whole set of processes to create html pages automatically.
If the email attachment could be automatically saved to the relevent server file as soon as it arrived it would make my life so much easier.

    Many thanks for any help.

Not via rules because saving an attachment is not possible - however a macro could do it.
I haven't written code to do this yet - but I have a need to do it shortly so may get enthusiastic over the weekend <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> If anyone else has something similar I'd appreciate all the help I can get.

    There are two steps
1 Setting up a Macro to run from a rule
2 Writing a Macro that does the particular save

At the moment I cannot remember if this is totally nullified by Outlook's stupidity around its security design. That is, Macros often trigger a non-avoidable security alert message. If that is so, it is often easier to simply write the macro and attach it to a button to be pressed only for the incoming message - a semi-automated procedure.

Re: Auto Save an Attachment on Receipt (Outlook 20

One caution about Outlook 2002's ability to work with attachments. I set up a procedure to look for DOC attachments and convert them to text and create a new message with their contents (so I can pick them up with my Treo using the slightly retarded email software I'm using). I am having problems with .MSG attachments (embedded Outlook messages) crashing my procedure. I've added some exceptions to my rule (e.g., EXCEPT if the subject line contains Delivered: or Delivery Status Notification), but occasionally they still get through. I'm not sure what the solution is, but someday I'll either figure it out or upgrade my software. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

There are a number of discussions in this Forum on saving attachments automatically by code - Search for 'Save Attachments' - and there are a number of tools already in existence for your purpose, see Slipstick as a starting point.
