I need a screenshot of the log in screen

I need to get a screenshot of my login screen. (Windows XP Professional)

I have tried printscreen. But when I finish logging in, there's nothing to paste.

I have a screenshot of an older version of Windows -- but I can't remember how I managed it before.

    Thanks,
    Peggy

If you are referring to the Welcome screen, there is an easy way. First, make sure that Fast User Switching is enabled (Start>Control Panel>User Accounts>Change the way users log on or off>and select Use Fast User Switching). Then close all applications, Log Off and select Switch Users. When the Welcome screen appears, Printscreen and then select your own account. Then you can open Word (or whatever) and paste the image.

I am not seeing what you're referring to .. "change the way users log on or off" ...

    Thanks ...

Perhaps it is because you are logging into a domain?

See: How To Use the Fast User Switching Feature in Windows XP which includes:

Fast User Switching is enabled by default in Windows XP Home Edition and Professional on computers with more than 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM. However, Fast User Switching is not available on Windows XP Professional-based computers that are part of a domain network.

Yes I am part of a domain network -- that must be why I can't see the switching.

I have a screenshot in my instructions now -- and I wanted to update it --

I wish I could remember how I snagged it before!

The clarification about logging onto a domain explains why you can't do what I was suggesting. Sorry about the confusion Peggy. In this case then, I'm not quite sure how you can acheive this (other than possibly taking a digital picture of the logon screen). Perhaps someone else may have some ideas.

You could always try this pre-programmed Google Search....

Yes, this is one of the many defciences of Windows (including not being able to capture BSOD screens). An easy solution if you have a digital camera is to take a picture of the screen, then upload it when you are logged on.
