    Creating system.mdw (XP, SP2)

Every database I open opens with a new mdw that I just created. I tried to remedy this by renaming System.mdw then starting up Access again. However, Access does not create a new System.mdw. What am I doing wrong?

Are you looking in the correct location? If I remove or rename my System.mdw, a new one is created when I start Access again. The default location is

    Cocuments and Settings<username>Application DataMicrosoftAccess

You can create a new System.mdw manually from within Access: Tools | Security | Workgroup Management...

Neither renaming nor removing system.mdw (followed by starting up Access) was effective. However, creating a new System.mdw worked. Thanks.
