Formats & Hyperlinks (Mozilla's Latest FireFox)

Very new to Mozilla and haven't figured out a lot yet but this is one I haven't even run into any information on at all.

While using FireFox as the WEB browser can one find a FireFox extension to allow the use of HTML fonts, colors, and hyperlinks?

    Thanks

If you want to change default fonts and colors you can use the "Tools>Options..." dialog. The options are in the general section. For details see Firefox help

    Tony,

Thanks but I probably asked the question wrong again. I wanted to be able to make some text bold, change the color of some words, underline or italicize some words and create hyperlinks very similar to the way I could/can do these things using IE. I don't find that with the options that I just looked at. I have tried those before and unless I'm missing something I don't see how to do it. I thought there just might be an extension that I may have to install to get those capabilities.

I hope I'm not confusing things but what I'm trying to say is that when IE is the WEB browser I can select words and bold them, color them, italicize them, and underline them as I am typing. I can also create a hyperlink while typing a WEB site. That is what I would like to do using ForeFox as the WEB browser and don't see how to do it.

I'm not aware of any extension that does that. You can browse the extensions available at Mozilla Update and texturizer.net though not all extensions on this site will be compatible with the latest version of Firefox.

    Tony,

Thanks I have already looked at most of them and didn't find anything that is why I posted. Maybe it just can't be done.

Can you explain exactly what it is that you are doing in Internet Explorer? I have never been aware of this as an option in any default installation of Internet Explorer - browsers simply render a page based on the underlying HTML code and do not make it available for editing, which is what it sounds like you are doing. I can find no option to perform these tasks as you describe in any version of Internet Explorer that I have available.

Sounds to me like you're talking about an HTML editor and not a browser.

    Al,

Not sure but I don't think that is what I'm talking about because that is not what I do when using IE as the WEB browser. I just type and format as I go.

Aha, I see now in your answer to Mark! I don't use Yahoo for mail, so I'm afraid I can't advise you on this one. I'll bail out here...

Re: Formats & Hyperlinks (Mozilla's Latest FireFox

Alright, now I understand. The problem appears to be a Javascript that is Internet Explorer-only and provides rich-text editing functions. There is no simple fix for this one, I'm afraid - until Yahoo re-codes that script to be cross-browser compatible. I'm dangerously close to ranting about developers not considering alternate platforms here, so I'll just clamp my lips...

Re: Formats & Hyperlinks (Mozilla's Latest FireFox

The simple answer is poor design.

Microsoft has their own flavor of scripting for web pages that is not standards compliant. Since Internet Explorer has an overwhelming share of the browser market, it is very common for website developers to create code that renders well only in IE. The developers test their custom code only in Internet Explorer, being relatively assured that it will work on 95% of the computers that will be viewing their efforts.

What makes this particularly irritating here is that Yahoo is visited by millions of web surfers, and they have no notification posted that their mail system is fully supported only in Internet Explorer. Good design would be platform neutral and appear/work/render properly regardless of the browser used to view the content.
