    Date Format in NAV

I am running Norton Antivirus 2003 on a Windows XP laptop. In the NAV satus window it shows my virus definition date as 6/10/2004 (October 6,2004) which is the correct format for New Zealand. However, when I view the report of the virus list the date is displayed as 10/6/2004. How can I get it to display correctly?

I am not aware of any options to change that, unless there is a registry key.
You could report this as a bug to Symantec, however, I doubt that they'll do anything about it since NAV 2005 is already released,

    Phil

Can you give the path to the place where you are reading "the report of the virus list" so I can compare it with my UK version?

There wasn't any problem yesterday, I presume, it being 10/10/2004!

Interesting, I also have NAV 2002 (to take away any doubts: the date shown is the 2nd of October).

Not sure what you mean by "path". I just open NAV, click Reports, then click Virus List/View Report. Maybe it is to do with XP as I am running NAV 2003 on two other PCs running Windows 98Se without problem.

Check the Win XP date settings to make sure they are all consistent,

Of course NAV interfaces with each OS differently, it still could be an NAV issue.

Make sure that Win XP's short and long date formats are set according to your needs.
No telling which format is used by NAV.

    Phil

By "path" I meant "what you have to do to get to the misdisplayed dates"!

I've checked through all the Norton Internet Security 2004 locations which display dates, and they are all in the expected (UK) dd/mm/yyyy format, identical to my Regional Options "Short date" format.

If you open a DOS prompt window, and enter: date and press enter, is it in the format you want?

Yes, I have checked all this in the Regional Settings.

    Re: Date Format in NAV

Then either there's a bug in windoze or, more likely, for whatever reason, the NAV developers made a stupid design decision are not using the same date throughout.

If the latter, I expect that Symantec will semi-quickly fix this bug, should not be difficult.
So you need to report via formal Symantec channels, or live wit hthe problem until somebody else reports the problem.

    Re: Date Format in NAV

I don't think it is an "undocumented feature", AKA "bug" in Windows either. But I also don't think it is a bug in NAV. Rather I think it is Norton's arrogance showing through again and they have just decided they are going to hard code it their way and you WILL like it.

I like NAV and I realize that to fight malware, some flexibility may be restricted, but they take it too far when they expect everyone to follow their "standards" - IMHO.

I agree, report it - and get as many folks who prefer a different date format to report it too, but don't hold your breath waiting for a fix.
