Keyboard Non-functional under Windows XP (XP SP1)

Keyboard is funtional at the bios level and on the windows login dialog box. As soon as the login dialog box disappears, the num lock LED comes on and the keyboard is non-functional. Trying to input with the keyboard creates a series of clicking noises and nothing more. Any help will be appreciated.

Have tried both a USB and a PS2 with the same anomaly.

Does the keyboard work properly if you boot into Safe mode? If so then try deleting the keyboard from Device Manager in safe mode and rebooting.

Come to think of it, you could do this without going in to safe mode, I don't think you need to type any keyboard commands to get to Device Manager and delete the keyboard.

Keyboard doesn't work in the safe mode. have tried deleting in device manager and having windows re-install. nothing fixes the problem. Have seen two other posts on other forums with the same issue and no solutions.

Re: Keyboard Non-functional under Windows XP (XP SP1)

What type of keyboard is it - specifically make (manufacturer) and model?
Have you tried the keyboard on another computer?
Were there any other hardware or software changes around the time the keyboard began to malfunction?

If you search the Knowledge Base under Windows XP - keywords "keyboard does not work", there are many possible causes. The first step would be to eliminate the possibility of bad hardware by testing the keyboard on another computer.
