    calculate a label (access 2000)

Is there a way to calculate a value for a label? I want to add totals and display the answer as a label.
    Thanks.

You can do that through a very convoluted process that involves opening the form / report in design mode, but the facilities in Access have been designed to do that sort of thing very easily in text boxes. If you build a form or report using the wizard it will offer to put totals on for you, and then you can study the method used. The end result is much like a label, and can be locked so it cannot be changed.

You can use VBA to set the Caption property of a label, but you would have to do all the work in code that Access can do automatically in a text box. As Wendell wrote, it is much easier to use a text box; you can make it look like a label by using the Format Painter, and set its Enabled property to No and Locked property to Yes so that the user can't click in it.
