    Outlook/Word mail merge (Word 2000 sp3- Outlook 2000 sr-1)

My Word 2000 mail merge document has text that contains bold characters with different color. After the merge take place and the document is opened in Outlook 2000, the format (bold/color characters) is lost. What needs to be change in Outlook or Word to prevent this? Thanks

Have you checked if Word is your default e-mail editor?

Is it possible that (Outlook) Tools>Options>Preferences>E-mail Options>Read all standard mail in plain text is selected?

Are you merging from Word directly to e-mail recipients? Word 2000 did not support HTML merging, so the resulting messages are plain text. This was "fixed" in Office XP.

In word I select merge. The Merge meun appears. In the Merge to: "Electronic Mail" is selected. In the SETUP, Merge To Setup menu appears. The field that contains the receipents email address is selected. Then merge button is click on to
mail documents. So if this is what you are referring too then the answer is yes.

Yes, that feature did not let you create any mail format except plain text. It's been a few years, but workarounds have been posted. These include writing VBA code to generate and address each message (can run into security prompts) and using other software to generate the messages (e.g., the kind used by bulk mailers, but of course you would use them only for legitimate mail).
