Default Browsers (Firefox / NetCaptor 7.5.2)

I have been using NetCaptor for several years... and it works well, with some limitiations. So I thought I'd give Firefox a try.

It's a neat browser, but still (for me) has some issues connecting and stuff, so I want to keep Netcaptor around...

But whenever I try to switch between browsers (for setting the default browser) none (Firefox, Netcaptor, and IE) seems to do a complete job of setting the default properties.

Some file types don't get carried over, icon defaults for links don't always (but do sometimes) change over with the browsers...

Is there any manual way to set the default browser *completely*, so I woldn't have to depend on any of them?

    Regards,

I'm sure there is a manual way, and it might involve identifying all the relevant registry keys and compiling them into three .REG files, one for each browser. However, that sure sounds like a lot of work!

I dunno either... but, for instance, I just now had to restore from an image file, because all of a sudden none of my inet links were working, and when I just "selected" the default browser, suddenly none of the browsers were loading right...

If I could just get Firefox to "stay stable" that would be fine, but it seems to lose it's associations etc...

For instance, right now (post restore) I have FF as the default, for http files, the "Open" line of the file shows:
    C:WINAPPSCOMMINTERNETBROWSERSMOZILL~1FIREFOX.EXE -url "%1"

Do I need the "-url" part? I *know* the install did it, but is that a contributor to the links getting screwed up?

Have you heard anything from others about the same type of instability?

    Regards,
    Chuck

Program do not lose their own associations. One of the other browsers, or some other process, must be muscling in.

I'm tempted to just say yes, but I haven't tested without it.

You're right... I was just groping for expression...

Clikcking on the link goes *nowhere* in *any* browser...

This could be somethingcommon, or at least caused by a "not new problem", but I've never seen it like this before...

I install Firefox, and get it working well, and then "all of a sudden" thi link becomes unresponsive...

Firefox does not necessarily make all the necessary changes in the registry when you set it as the default browser. <post#=401489>post 401489</post#> will lead you to a reg file that will make the necessary changes to make Firefox the default. I don't know if switching back to another browser after that will make the necessary changes back.
