disk is full - Win 2000

I keep getting a disk is full message, though I have at least a third free and now some of my programs wont open. I had a look atMicrosoft's KB article and they sugested it might be something to do with my antivirus stuff (I am using McAfee). I have now uninstalled it all but I still get a disk full message.

Is there anything I can do except throw the pc out of the window please?!

Which program reports error message? Why do you think that at least 30% is free? Did you run chkdsk and defrag? How big is your pagefile? Do you have any programs like GoBack that creates hidden folders? Do you have hidden partitions on your hard drive? More details, please, including how big is your hard drive.

And most important one: did you perform full disk scan with your Antivirus (with most recent virus definitions)?

Photoshop wont open. Word, Excel wont save. Mappoint wont open a spreadsheet to import. I cannot open a file from Windows Explorer . When I try to open a file in excel I get a "read only" option - being told that someone else has the file open (this is a stand alone pc so very strange). I have a 20 gb hard disc and 6 plus gb is free - this is from selecting c: drive properties. No I have no hidden partitions (I have a separate hard drive where I store most of my data and my archive Outlook. I have run checkdisk and defrag - but interestingly when I try to run disk clean up it hangs at temp files and I have been unsucceful at running this.

Yes I did do a virus check before I binned it!

I am totally at a loss on this one. But I want to avoid having to reformat my hard drive.

    Cheers

    TRy rebooting.
If that doesn't fix the problem, reboot into SAfe Mode and see if that does any better.

Suggest you download and install (if there's enough room!) and run the 30-day evaluation version of TreeSize Professional, which will produce results which can be sorted (and drilled down) to see what is taking up the disk space. Then you can attack selectively...

PS I miss going through Bradley Stoke to get to Stoke Gifford, now that I've been made redundant!
