    'File already in use' - error message (2000)

    Hello,

    I keep getting "File already in use" error message when l am in database and another use tries to open the database.
    Any suggestions as to how l resolve this problem.

    You get the message or the other user does? You haven't provided enough details for us to determine what the problem might be. Are both of you opening the database as shared? Are you opening the same front end? Is the database split into a front end and back end? What kind of locking is set up on the database?

    Both people are opening the database as shared.
    Both parties are opening the same end.
    See attachment for locking attributes.
    The person who tries to open the database when someone else is in the database gets the message.

    Thanks. Is the file on a server, and do all the people who open it have create/modify/delete permissions on the folder in which it resides? Inadequate permissions are a common cause of the error message you cited, because the ldb file has to be created, written to and deleted in that folder.     Another possibility is that if you are in design view for one or more objects (tables, queries, forms,...) the other users wont be able to open the database.
