    Excel XP/DOS Lotus macros (XP)

Will 1985 DOS Lotus macros run on Excel XP?

I can get them to run under my Excel97/SR2, and an intermediary just tried in Excel XP (Tools, Options, Transition, Transition navigation keys) without success.

A telephonic comparison of the Help files suggests only 5 entries in XP, but about 40 in 97, leading me to think that Microsoft might have dropped the simulator, so that one can no longer run Dos Lotus macros in Excel (and a good thing too, frankly!).

Has anyone managed to get an auto run macro (0) and letter macros (A, B etc) to work? And hence the old 3-row Lotus menus?

I don't use xl XP so can not test it. I would be very surprised if they were still supported. I am not sure how well the later versions even support excel's earlier macro language.

In XL97 autoexec macros (/0) are supported, but there are limitations to what excel can run. See the excel help under "lotus macros" for more info.

Excel's XLM macros are supported by all current versions.

Excel 97 was the last version to support lotus 123 keyboard macros.

Steve, thanks very much for this confirmation.

I had hoped to save the client some time (jump-start) and perhaps money, but now they'll just have to pay me (sigh!).

Jan Karel, thankls for this confirmation, see also my response to Steve.

On a lighter note, I'm pleased to learn that I am still on a cutting edge of technology; maybe I'll postpone the upgrade for another five years (grin!)
