Favorite Icons in IE's Address Bar (6)

Here's another one of those things that make you go hhhmmmm?

How do you get the fav.ico to display in the IE address bar?

I've got FavOrg and that works fine for bookmarks in my Favorites list, but they don't show in the address bar.

And while I'm asking, what is the trick again to get IE to open a new window?

    Thanks!

Don't know about the favicon in the address bar.

To make shortcuts (on the desktop) open in a new window if IE is already active: select Tools | Internet Options..., activate the Advanced tab and clear the "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" check box.
To make a link in a web page open in a new window: hold Shift down while clicking the link.

To make the favicon appear, try:

Press Ctrl whilst clicking on Refresh
    and/or
Left_click and drag the default icon 1-2cm (or about 1") to the right within the address field several times until it appears.

    Oh the mysteries of Windows!

To HansV: "select Tools | Internet Options..., activate the Advanced tab and clear the "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" check box." did the trick. Thanks.

To Leif: "Left_click and drag the default icon 1-2cm (or about 1") to the right within the address field several times until it appears." also works as you suggested. One other peculiarity I noticed is that you have to do this for each and every page, but when you exit IE and return the favico is still in the address bar. (For now)Thanks!

Another way to get your favicons organised would be to use FavOrg.

(Or use (the superior) Firefox which doesn't seem to need the same amount of cajoling that IE does <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> )

Forunately, I got FavOrg when it was a free download. As I said in my original post, it works fine on the bookmarks in my Favourites list but did nothing for the IE address bar.

I'm assuming that Firefox is another browser. Do you have a url for that? (I guess I could just Google it)

Sorry - I missed that you'd mentioned it in your first post. I have a sneaking suspicion that when the cache is cleared, the link to displaying them in the address bar goes too.

No need to Google for Firefox - just check out the "Other Browsers..." forum immediately below this one.

I see from the Mozilla website that Firefox is a free download. Do you know if the companion email client Thunderbird is also free? It is not clear on Mozilla, it just says "Download".

As far as I know, all Mozilla stuff is free to use.

(It may be a good idea to continue further Moz questions in the other forum where you'll stand a better chance of answers from the folk who actually use this software! - I use Firefox, but not Thunderbird.)

Thanks Leif. I'll change forums if I have more "Other Browser & Email Clients" questions.
