How to disable automatic date change (Office XP)

I export data from Access to Excel, but one fileld automatically gets changed into a date. Data such as "12-1" and "11-1" turn to "12/1/2004" and "11/1/2004", which is not desirable. How can I prevent such automatic date conversion? Thank you.

If you copy from access and paste into excel, after the info is paste, you can select the column and change the format to text (format -cells - number(tab) - text)

It seems to paste OK, the problem seems to be excel's conversion after you try to edit it.

What is the field type of the FileID column in access?
If it is number, consider changing it to Text. This should also help to prevent the problem.

    Rudi,

If the type was number it would be impossible to enter "12-1"

    Hi Francois,

If you have a number type field with an input mask set to 00-0, then it can accept 2 digits and a digit with a print character inbetween.

    Hi shlomos

I am not quite sure how you export your data, whether it is an export from Access or a paste and append method straight from the tables. One way that I have got around your problem is I import the data from Access to Excel using Data--> Import External Data--> Import Data...

I select the query or table from the Access database and then when it comes to report time I open my Excel workbook and refresh the data. This method allows me to format the fields as required within the Excel book and automates my reporting process.

    I hope this helps.
