    Office updates (2000 sp3)

My PC has had to be rebuilt, and has been returned to me nominally in the same state as when it was ok before. W2K v5, SP4; office 2000 SP3. I use the Microsoft updates sites for both of these products. This is the first time I have tried to do this since the rebuild.

The office update is offering a security update to SP1a, all subsequent updates are greyed out. But my help--> about screens show SP3 installed.

Clearly I want to get at the later updates, but how do I get past the ?un-necessary SP1a of 12th May 2000. Can I apply it even though it shouldnt be necessary? will I have to do SP3 again?

    Thanks in anticipation

    Hi Mike,

If you don't have the SR1(a) update installed, I doubt that you'll have SP3 correctly installed. Why? Because Microsoft's SP3 download screen says:
"Note Prior to installing SP3, you must install Office 2000 Service Release 1a (SR1a) Update."
    See http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...displaylang=en"

    Cheers

In addition, after installing Service Release 1a (SR-1a) and Service Pack 3 (SP-3) updates, don't forget to install following:

    - Office XP Security Update KB832332 v.2 (October 12, 2004)
    - Security Update for Office XP WordPerfect 5.x Converter (KB873379)
    - Office XP Alternative User Input Update: KB832668 and
    - Microsoft Office XP Update: KB833858 - the latest updates to the Microsoft Script Editor.
If you use Outlook, you need to apply Outlook 2002 Security Patch: KB828040. It's almost mandatory.
If you use Access, you may need to install Access 2002 Update: KB833857.

Visit http://office.microsoft.com/OfficeUpdate/default.aspx AFTER installing SR-1a and SP-3 and install all necessary updates.

    Hi kaplinb:
Those only apply to Office XP, don't they? I don't think they apply to Office 2000.

Thanks for this and the other replies, I had forgotten that our office routines block the email advice aboutm replies!!!

No I can see no race of the earlier Service pack, so thats a bit of a blow, but still, at least I have my data safe.

    Thanks to all,

    Mike C
