    Archive to CD-ROM (Outlook 2000, SR1)

We have a department which wants to release space on their File&Print servers by moving users' archive PST files to CD-ROM. However, as users access the archives frequently, they do not want to have to copy the file onto HDD before they can access.

Is there any way to get Outlook to open the archive directly on CD-ROM without requiring Read access to the file?

    Thanks

As far as I know, Outlook cannot work with a .pst file on CD-ROM. The file MUST be copied to hard disk. See You receive a "File access is denied" error message when you try to import a .pst file from a CD-ROM to Outlook folders.

No you can't read a PST from a CD ROM. I archive my files to a CD then put a copy of the PST on my C drive.... If I lose my hard disc or whatever (I have had my laptop stolen) -- it is really no hassle to copy over the CD again. This solution provides the best of all worlds - file server space is reduced, important data is backed up and users still have access to their archives.

    Cheers Karen
