    Network Setting (XP Pro)

We have a network deficiency that requires us to go into the Control panel>Network settings>TCP/IP and change IP Addresses to access some of our locations. After completing work on a site, then return and reset the IP Addresses back.

It seems to me that these changes should be able to be done with some type of program rather than have to to them manually each time.

Can anybody give me a lead on how to do this?

    Thanks

If there is only ONE site where you have to do this, you can configure the fixed address under your alternate IP configuration. This address will then be used whenever the PC can't find a DHCP server.

    Re: Network Setting (XP Pro)

I'm not sure if I described my problem well enough, probably not!

We have a local network, and one connection that has to be made using DSL , and also want to connect to the internet. The system is setup using user defined IP addresses. One set of addresses for most of our work. It will not allow a connection to the DSL site. So when we want to connect to the DSL site we have to change the user defined addresses to allow connection to it,. When thru with that site change to addresses back to what they were. That process accomplishes the result but it is a bit of a chore that I thought could be reduced.

Frankly we have a IP Guru that has been struggling with this problem and there may be aspects that I have not described completely. What I was hoping for is a way to automate the process of entering addresses rather than have to enter all the steps manually each time. It seems that your recommendation assumes that we are starting with a "Obtain IP address Automaticaly", which is not the case.

I looked up the "Netswitcher" site but I can not figure out if it will do our job.

    Thanks for your help, but I'm still confused! <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

I understand your problem a bit better now. You definitely want a tool like NetSwitcher.

(Woody's Windows Watch 2.15 said nice things about this product, but I can't find an online archive of this magazine any more).
