    SFC (XP SP2)

After installing XP SP2 I tried to get SFC to look on the hard drive where the new files were stored, the new i386 folder, by modifying the Registry. It didn

You can always order the SP2 CD from Microsoft, if you want?

I'm not quite sure why you would want to run the SFC following a recent successful installation of XP SP2, but <!mskb=310747>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 310747<!/mskb> tells you what Microsoft wrote it to do...

    John,

Thanks. I have that CD but it will not help you when running a SFC. SFC still asks for the XP CD.

I don't want to run SFC /SCANNOW immediately but I do want to be prepared in the event I would need to in the future.

Ah, you didn't originally say it asked for the XP installation CD! I suspect SFC is clever enough not to "back-level" any file, since a significant proportion will have been replaced by installing SP2!

That's a good reference which deals with the question completely, as far as I can see!

    Joe,

Thanks but I have to say I have seen that and tried to follow it to the letter. Step 1, 2 & 3 of the first section is what I had done but it doesn

Yes, I think you will need to use the original CD. You may also be asked for a second CD if the SP2 files are NOT on the drive.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

The whole point of the registry mods is so you don't have to have the CD. Can you post the registry entries in a text file?

    Re: SFC (XP SP2)

    Joe,

Thanks but I can't do that. They were wiped out when I reinstalled SP2. BTW, I made a slipstream CD and it appears to work fine when running a SFC.

    Thanks again.
