    Spitting Tables without Wizared (2002)

    Hi,

I normally use the wizard to split tables. I have a database that has temporary tables that do not need to be split. I'm wondering if there is a way to split the tables in code.

    Thanks,
    Leesha

    Leesha,

Create a new database with the _be in the name and them import the tables from your new database.
When you have the tables and data there, open your other database and delete the tables that you imported
Link to the tables in your new database.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Don,

Thanks for the info! I did all the steps you mentioned however when I went to update the links I got the message that there are no linked tables and when I go to work with them they don't show up. How do I tell the database where to find them?

    Thanks,

    Leesha,

Do you have 2 db's now, with the one name and the other name_be ?
If yes, make a copy of both in case something goes wrong.
    Open the db named name_be.
Do you have the wanted tables in it ?
If no, go to File, Get External Files, Import and navigate to the db name. Click on import. In the tab Table select all the tables you want to impoert and click on OK
    Close the db name_be.
Open the original, and if you have tables in it delete all the tables you have imported in the name_be.
Select File, Get External Data, Link Tables.
Navigate to the db named name_be, select it and click on Link.
In the new window, select the tab Tables and Click on Select All and click on OK.
Now the tables are linked and you don't need to update the links until you move the db's on a different place on your pc or network.
