    Scrolling through new posts.

Okay, you come into the office, Monday morning.

You've made an agreement with yourself that you will have a look at ALL the new posts in selected boards, and you will do it every morning. Why? Well, to learn stuff, of course.

And you do. You see snippets of code that don't quite gel in your mind, but enough sticks to be able to search for it later, when you need it. Hell, you might even find a problem you can help someone with. Good, solid, informal professional development, right?

    You with me so far?

But there doesn't seem to be an easy way to open a board, and step through all the new posts, one by one. No 'go read the next unread post' icon. No way to do it easily. Or if there is, I can't find it.

Anyone have more info than I do? I'm happy to fall on my sword if I've screwed up. Wouldn't be the first time. <img src=/S/crazy.gif border=0 alt=crazy width=15 height=15>

    Cheers

You may find it easiest to subscribe to email notification of new posts on the boards of interest - from your profile. This will send you daily emails with all the new posts.

I may be missing your point here, but I don't understand what the problem is. First of all, if you're a regular Lounge participant, I would think you would use the Control Panel to see all the boards that you regularly frequent. Secondly, if you set your profile to keep track of "watched threads" you will at least know when there are new posts in the threads that you have been tracking. And lastly, in the lower right corner of every forum is the icon-set that allows you to effortlessly move from one thread to another. Have I misunderstood your question?

    Al,

This will allow you to browse THREADS to which new posts have been added. Starting at the first post in each thread. It would be much more convenient if the browsing could skip to the first unread post in each thread - but this cannot be done.

Thanks Al. That's what I meant.

If you had a 'Show me the next unread post in this thread, or the first unread post in the next thread if there isn't one' button, that would do it.

    Cheers

    Re: Scrolling through new posts.

If I follow what you are after, there is only one method I know of:
Start off viewing the Forum index, which will be showing the list of threads with new posts chronologically at the top. Starting with the lowest one, Ctrl-click the first you want to view and it will open in a new window with focus on the first unread post . When you have finished reading it, close the window and repeat with the next thread.
(You may find this a more 'pleasing experience' with a tabbed browser such as Firefox...)

I use threaded mode to view the posts in the lounge. Any post with a red icon tells me it's been updated or is a brand new post (to my eyes).

If you're in flat, this may not be as easy to determine.

It would take quite a bit of programming to add the bookmarks to every post fetched, rather than just to the main index page (or the control panel page). Given the workload of the server right now, it seems unlikely to happen in the near future.

Well, thanks for understanding the desire. I'll cope in the meantime.
