    Trap the Documents.add event (word 2003 sp1)

I'm trying to trap the documents.add event, when used with the 'from existing document' option in the task pane.
Basically I need it to call a Document management program at that point rather than default to the local file system.
    Thanks for looking

I don't think you can trap that specific event, but you can create an application level event handler for the NewDocument event. It will occur whenever you create a new document, irrespective of the method, not only when the user selects "New from existing document". If you search this forum for withevents, you will find examples of setting up application level event handlers. You must be aware, however, that application level events can cause problems.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I thought I'd double check first as I couldn't find anyway to trap it directly
    'NewDocument' method it is.

I think Microsoft had posted some documentation on how to reprogram the Task Pane after Word 2002 was released, but it did not sound like a simple job. Perhaps that can be a backup option if NewDocument does not work out.
