    I always use a third party disk imaging tool for this. Acronis TruImage (spelling?), DriveImage, Norton Ghost or similar.

    Also, most manufacturers supply a CD with the new drive that you can use to do this.
    Instructions come with the CD.

    REPLACING DRIVE C (SP1)

    What is the best way to move WinXP Pro to a new replacement hard drive (Drive C) without re-installing XP Pro from scratch?

    How about XP's Backup or ASR?
