New paragraph/same line in Word2003 (11.6359.6360 SP1)

Hey Folks,

Up until 2003, or so it would seem, I could set a paragraph mark to Hidden and Word would start the next paragraph on the same line (useful for applying numbering and different formatting --that appeared to be in the paragraph-- in preparing Specifications and legal documents). Been using this since Word2.0 and found today that it does not work (automatically?) with 2003. Don't see anything on the Compatibility tab (though that was set for 2000); any idea how to invoke the old functionality (or a new facility)?

Much thanks,
BobM.

I haven't tried it myself, but I understand that a new feature called the Style Separator was added to replace the old workaround. As the name implies, it is supposed to let you apply one style to text at the beginning of a paragraph, and a different style to the rest of the paragraph.

Yes, there's a new StyleSeparator mark. Go to Tools->Customize->Commands->All commands. Scroll down to InsertStyleSeparator and drag it to one of your toolbars. You can press it anywhere in a paragraph, and Word will run in the following paragraph.

A note for the keyboarders... (I'll never my keyboard)

The shortcut key combination for the "InsertStyleSeparator" command is Alt+Ctrl+Enter.

But I have that assigned to Tools/Customize... & Alt+Shift+Enter to Tools/Options. Why does MS keep stealing my shortcuts.

Thanks Andrew.
Only concern now is what comes up in the Document Map...
assuming auto-numbering will recognize if "run-in" is set as body text.
