    Text in formula (Excel 2000)

    If I have a formula like this: =(COUNTIF(A2:A5,"YES")+N("Occurances of seeing YES"))
    I know I am going to get the answer 2 in the cell if there are actually 2 occurances of the word YES in cells A2:a5 and that if I click on the formula bar I will be able to see my annotation of what its for...however
    What I would like to know is how do I place for example the words...Occurances of seeing YES at the end of the answer 2 in the cell itself...so after pressing ENTER I actually see 2 Occurances of the Word Yes instead of just a 2?

    Thank you,
    NMP

    Hi

    You can use the following:

    <code>=COUNTIF(A2:A5,"YES") & " Occurances of seeing YES"</code>

    Like this:

    <pre>=COUNTIF(A2:A5,"YES")&" Occurances of seeing YES"
    </pre>

    The way proposed by Tony and Legare will convert the number 2 into text so it can no longer be used for calculations

    Another way, which preserves the number, is to use a custom number format:
    Format - cells - number(tab) - custom:

    0" Occurances of seeing YES"

    And maybe run it past the spellcheck, which will, I hope, suggest "occurences". But you can add tyour spelling to custom.dic if you wish!
    Love and peace.

    I just answered the request as made. I assumed they wanted the spelling that way for a reason <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
