    Web pages and Office Apps

Edited by KB MacKenzie 16-May-01 to abbreviate URL display.
The moderator in the Front Page section suggested that I bring my problem to this group. Bascially I'm having a problem using OFfice templates from a website. If you have any ideas, my thread is <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=front&Number=38522&page =&view=&sb=&vc=1#Post38522>here</A>.

So essentially, you want to make the "What do I do with this file?" dialog box disappear.. I got it...

Yes, I want the window to disappear and I want the application (Word or Excel) to open with the template working as it ususally does (document name1.doc for example) and be able to save the document on my PC.

Re: Web pages and Office Apps

Anyone got any ideas about what's going on and what I can do about it? I basically want to use a webpage as a desktop but can't seem to be able to put it together. I noticed another interesting thing last night: opening an Excel spreadsheet works OK (no window asking if I want to open or save to disk), but opening Word documents gives me the Open/save window. However, in both Word and Excel, when I try to save I can only save the items as templates (.xlt and .dot extensions are forced and cannot be changed.)

I would be interested in a method to do this also. We are always looking for easier ways to make our templates available to the different sites in our company. If they could simply create a new document from a template sitting on a web server, that would be ideal. Right now we serve the templates from the web server but they have to download them to their template directory so they can create a new document from the template.
