AutoNumber Duplication (Access 2002)

There are three users in an office I support who are entering data into an Access database. They are each using their own front end which is linked to the backend where the data resides. They have been using this same database for more than 5 years without any problem and now all of a sudden the autonumber field is duplicating numbers. I have tried compact and repair on the backend as well as on each person's front end and it is still continuing to happen. Could a virus cause something like this to happen?

What steps should I take to fix this database?

According to AutoNumber field duplicates previous values after you compact and repair a database, you should install the latest Jet 4.0 service pack. The MSKB article contains a link to obtain the latest version.

Thank you. I have downloaded and installed the latest Jet 40 database engine for each of the users. Hopefully this will fix their problem.

You might want to check my website below for a utility that will reset the autonumber values on all tables in a database. The Jet patch doesn't fix the existing problem, it only keeps it from happening once the autonumbers have been correctly reset.
