    Spybot and RADMIN

This morning I ran AdAware and Spybot, in that order, after letting each one as usual check for recent pattern files. Spybot told me it found HAXDOOR-H trojan in my registry and it listed a key containing a RADMIN identifier. Since I do have Radmin installed, I figured I had picked up something that was attempting to tamper with that program. I temporarily went to the Sophos web site and noticed that one of the items mentioned was that this trojan disables VIRUS software. Lo and behold, I remembered that when I arose this morning my "usual" PC-Cillin screen for my overnight scan had not been present. Checking further, it HAD NOT run, so I got very nervous and went back to Spybot and allowed it to remove the entry.

As I began my followup to see if I have any of the mentioned files on my system, I also happened on this forum thread which points out that there is a problem with the latest Spybot pattern file and RADMIN. There's even a little chiding of one poor soul who, like me, trusted Spybot! I don't know if there are any Radmin users in the Lounge but just wanted everyone to be aware. By the way, after all this, I manually ran a full PC-Cillin scan and it found nothing and I did a Shields-Up scan of my ports and it too reports me OK (all stealth).

    Re: Spybot and RADMIN

This happens with all the anti spyware products occasionally, Al. It usually means that somewhere out there is a nasty that used that registry key or dll and so it got inappropriately flagged as spyware. I've had it happen with SpyBot, Ad-Aware AND PestPatrol, all on different files/keys. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>
