Can't send email (OE6 SP1)

I've been having a problem SENDING email with OE6 sp1, can receive messages OK.
Last week MS tech support had me ADD a new Identity and the problem was fixed...for two days. I am now having problems again, added a 3rd identity but again can't send emails. This is also a problem when I use Outlook. ALL my settings have been CHECKED, DOUBLE-CHECKED, and are CORRECT.

The error msg is:

The connection to the server has failed. Account 'emailjt', Server: 'smtp.bigplanet.com',
Protocol:SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Anyone have a "new" suggestion before I call MS tech support again? --- [might call and get my $$.$$ back anyway]

Thanks,

These types of problems and errors are usually indicative of a server error on your ISP's end. I'd contact BigPlanet and see if they are having server issues in your area. If not, ask them to walk you through the settings and see if their service people's Help manuals have any better solutions than MS does. You might even get someone who actually knows something about computers this time.

Doc,
Thanks for reply...although I contacted my ISP [BigPlanet} before contacting MS tech support. It's not a server problem as I can send email using Webmail.
As mentioned, the first time problem was "fixed" by MS...but only worked for two days before receiving the same error message. My setting are correct...I guess my next move is to call MS tomorrow [Monday] and have them re-address the issue.

Thanks again,

Re: Can't send email (OE6 SP1)

I mentioned the issue with your server because in the past I had similar problems sending and/or receiving email or getting on to my ISPs website. Contacting them I was most often told that they were not having any server problems. I had not changed or modified any settings on my end, downloaded or installed any new programs or utilities and rebooting my system didn't change a thing. However, if I waited long enough, the "problem" that didn't exist on the ISP's end would simply go away and my connectivity would return to normal with no intervention on my part. I should mention that my ISP was MSN at the time. I have since switched to Verizon DSL and have not experienced the problem with them. I do not use and did not install the MSN Premium software that is marketed with the Verizon DSL package in my area.

I would check into the KB article that Claude referenced in his previous post. It's entirely possible that my situation was unique and your issue is different. BTW - While I was unable to connect to my email to send and/or receive or connect to the MSN website, I could connect to Yahoo and send and receive from that account and surf the net unrestricted excepting for MSN. I'm not saying I was being lied to. Simply that sometimes the information you are being given is somewhat less than accurate.
