Word 97 Templates to 2003? (2003)

Hi,

We are just about to begin a hardware and software rollout that incorporates an upgrade to Office 2003 (completely new build and image, but users are currently on Office 97). Will our existing Word 97 workgroup templates work in Word 2003 without any adaptation, or do I have to start a sub-project off to redesign them all now?

The file format for Word documents and templates hasn't changed fundamentally since Word 97, so a template created in Word 97 can be used in Word 2003. It is wise to test the templates on Word 2003 before the corporate-wide rollout, though. There are some changes that might affect their operation. In particular, mail merge was completely redesigned in Word 2002, and existing VBA code for mail merge might cause problems.

Thanks for that - just what I wanted to hear! Out templates are fairly basic, without any VBA at present - although that will change once the roll-out is completed.

Thanks for that. Our templates are very basic and are without VBA coding at present - that's the next project after the rollout!
