Disable Smart Tags? (Excel XP >)

Is there a way of disabling smart tags altogether?
I did go to TOOLS | AUTOCORRECT | SMART TAGS, as help suggested, but it can only be customized there. The help mensions that it can be removed, but i don't see the option!

Even if you choose None, it still shows smart tags if you insert a column or paste, etc. The problem I assume is also that the settings are per workbook. I'm after a global excel de-activation.

    Any ideas?

To turn off other indicators, select Tools | Options...
In the Edit tab, clear the check boxes labeled "Show Paste Option Buttons" and "Show Insert Option Buttons".
In the Error Checking tab, clear the check box labeled "Enable background error checking".
