Compare records in a row (Excel 2000)

I am downloading a text file that lists invoice numbers. In the first column are numbers for each vendor of the invoices. I want to compare cell A1 to cell A2, then 2 to 3, etc, until I find a difference in the numbers. Then, move all the matching lines above onto a different sheet, and go back to my text file, move all remaining records to the top of the page, and begin checking cell A1 against A2, then A2 against A3, until I find a difference again. I imagine there is some loop process, but I am not sure what it is. What code can I use to move through the records?

Someone (maybe Deb / jujuraf) had a similar need in the past year or two. If you were able to find that code, it could give you a huge headstart. Otherwise, someone more Excel-savvy than I may be able to get you started.
