MS Word 9.0 Object Library (MS Word 9.0 Object Library)

BACKGROUND...... I client of mine has a PC running Access 2000 on it's own. MS Word has never been installed. When trying to run a 2000 database, Access is reporting compile errors with the code running. I have checked the References and "Microsoft Word 9.0 Object Library" is reported as MISSING. I have unticked this component and looked for other MS Word Components, but there aren't any more (probably because MS Word has never been installed). Having unticked the missing compnent, I tried to re-compile, but the code still falls over. MY QUESTION........ I realise that 9.0 is the correct version for Office/Access 2000, so is there any way of installing Microsoft Word 9.0 Object Library (or any other component for that matter), without having to install Word? A colleague tells me that there is an article/posting relating to this, but I cannot find it..... HELP PLEASE!! <img src=/S/blackteeth.gif border=0 alt=blackteeth width=20 height=20>

What would be the point? The Word object library is used to control Word from VBA. If Word itself is not installed, that is impossible - there is nothing to control.

If you want the client to be able to use the database on a PC without Word, you will have to remove all code that refers to Word. Search for Word.Application and Word.Document in the code.

If the purpose is only view and print Word documents, then you can use the free Word Viewer.

Re: MS Word 9.0 Object Library (MS Word 9.0 Object Library)

Thanks for your reply Hans...
Yes the code in our database refers to Word applications. This is because we provide a common sweet of databases which our clients use across different operating systems with different installations of Office 2000. We obviously don't want to be in a situation whereby we have to customise the code for every PC, depending on what Office components they are running. Do you know of any way of installing (or linking to) Microsoft Word 9.0 Object Library on it's own, to get over this?

Thanks Francois - do you know if Microsoft Word Viewers incorporates the "Microsoft Word .0 Object Library" component?

No, it is just an exe file to use to view and print word documents.
Seeing you answer to Hans, I think it will be of no use for you.

I'm sorry, I don't know a) how to do that and if it is legal to install the Word object library (MSWord.olb) on a PC that does not have Word itself.

The object libraries of other office apps are not redistributable. You can't legally include them in your application setup, so you can't manipulate another Office app from Access unless those apps are installed on the target machine.
