Work locks up when switching between documents (word 2000)

I have a user who is having problems with her computer locking up/freezing when she switches between Word documents. Sometimes she is copying and pasting text from one document to another, other times she is just switching back and forth. She uses a lot of key strokes but does not notice any pattern of using keystrokes and the lock ups. She is using Word 2000 on a Windows XP machine. I've tried replacing her normal template and deleting the HKEY_CURRENT_USERsoftwaremicrosoftOffice9.0Word in the registry. Any suggestions? Thanks

First, there have been many service packs for Office 2000, so if she is not up to SP3, it would be best to apply it and rule out any "fixed" bug.

Second, Word may appear to freeze while Outlook retrieves mail. However, this usually passes quickly enough.

Third, some software may cause errors or other dialogs to pop-up behind the document. She might check all windows on the task bar, and minimize the individual documents, to make sure she is not missing anything.

Fourth, there might be some VBA code that is "watching" for selection or document changes and going into an infinite loop or just breaking. Sometimes it is possible to halt running code using Ctrl+Break, but it doesn't always work. This sort of thing probably requires hands-on diagnosis.

Try going through the steps listed in <post#=197827>post 197827</post#>, although you can skip renaming normal.dot, since you already replaced it.
