Notification of workbook updated in Excel spreadsh (2000)

    Hello,

In Excel if a user updates a workbook within a spreadsheet is there any way that l could be informed if this spreadsheet has been updated. As l have to keep checking through worksheets within a spreadsheets to see if there are any updates which is very time consuming.

    Regards
    Justin.

First, let's get the terminology straight. An Excel file (*.xls) is called a workbook. A workbook contains one or more worksheets.

You can look at the modification date of a workbook in Windows Explorer to see if it has been modified recently.

I did not think of that Hans, thanks.

Is there any way of being notified via an alert of some sort when a particular worksheet within a spreadsheet has been updated?

    Justin.

That would be rather cumbersome. When a user is editing a spreadsheet, (s)he may well enter dozens of modifications in a few minutes. Would you like to receive a notification for each of those?

I would only like to receive a notification if only one modification is made and not several, is that possible?

I don't understand what you mean by that.

When a user makes a change to a worksheet within a spreadsheet is it possible to be notified in some way.
If you don't understand that is not a problem as it is not than important.

You can monitor each individual change in a worksheet, but - as I wrote higher up - that could cause a tremendous stream of notifications. Or you can monitor when the workbook as a whole (the .xls file) is saved. You could also monitor when a user switches to another worksheet, but that does not imply that anything has been changed.
