    Open files with double-click

My system does not open files from within Windows Explorer when I double-click on a file. What settings must I change to enable me to double-click to open?

I assume you have checked, Windows Explorer>tools>folder options and checked "double click to open an item"?

Checked that out long ago. I am new to this office, pc and op sys (Windows 2000). Is there any other setting which might enable open on double-click?

Is Windows Explorer the only place you are having this problem?
I'm running XP but I would think the settings are very similar to 2000.

    Re: Open files with double-click

Can you give us an example of a SPECIFIC file you're trying to double-click please? If you have your other settings OK, it's probably an "association" that needs to be set. Try right-clicking on a file, select Open With and pick the application that SHOULD be used. If you select the box for "Always Use..." that should fix the problem for future double-clicks.

    Re: Open files with double-click

I most frequently work with Excel files and usually keep Explorer and Outlook open. I did check the file association (though I don't remember the "always use" check-box). A few days ago I could not open an attached Excel file from within Outlook.
