    Page number fieldcode (OfficeXP SP3)

    HI

Regulary in our WordXP documents we have noticed that their are weird characters -curly brackets after the pagenumber fieldcode. see screen dump.
When we try to clean up the footer - by either deleting this character, or by selecting the whole footer and cutting or deleting. the result is the text isnt deleted.
I've seen this in footers & headers.

We have a workaround by linking the footer to the previous section. then unlinking the current section footer & adding the text back in.

Have you seen this? Do you know why this happens? is it jus the footer or the pagenumber fieldcode is corrupt?

The brace appears to have a dotted outline around it. Is it hidden text? It reminds me somewhat of the strange {PRIVATE} fields that appear in documents that Word converts from WordPerfect. Can you post a sample document?
