Gettin rid of default templates (Word 2000 SR-1)

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to get rid of all the templates supplied with Word? We write our own, but the users get overwhelmed by irrelevant thisng like "Legal Pleadings" and can't identify ours.
I can set User templates and Work Group Templates locations, but I can't find how to clear out the supplied templates.
    Thanks,
    Judith

To remove default templates and tabs in Word 2000+, you have to use the installer and "uninstall" them. See WD2000: General Questions and Answers About the Location of Word 2000 Templates (MSKB 210884).

Instead of deleting the built-in templates, I prefer to add a directory to the Templates directory.
The added directory will be a tab in the display of directories.

Give the directory a meaningful name, such as, "Hey dudes and dudettes, use these templates, ignore the others?

The problem with that is Microsoft lists its own tabs first, at least in Word 2000 and 2002. Mine are relegated to the second row, and some don't even fit (they are on the More... tab). I wish I could put Microsoft's on the More... tab. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

i do not consider this a problem.

if someone is not trainable enough to look for a particular tab, then they have other issues.

msft could make it easier, but it's hard to argue with a ...

There seems to be an asymmetry in your concern about bad software: If it bothers you, it's a problem; if it doesn't bother you, people should just get over it. You're entitled to your views on what is important to you, but saying that people should be trained to waste extra time dealing with visual clutter is ridiculous and violates all known interface design theories.
