Credit Card Processing (any)

Does anyone have any experience with Credit Card processing from within Access? How is this done, and what is required?

What is the mode of input, is it a credit card reader or is it a keyboard wedge. If it's a keboard wedge then you should just be able to use it in Access as it should read the card and put a cr at the end of it.
I may be wrong but it should only be a matter of positioning the cursor at the field that will take the credit card details.

There is no means of input yet, that is part of what I need to know. What is required to read a card and submit it for processing, from within Access.

If it's a serial device then you need some way of reading a serial (COM) port, I don't know if there is any provision for reading a serial port from within Access. I would doubt it, so you will need an API to read the serial port.

Apparently I'm not making myself clear. I want to know what is required to submit a credit card transaction for authorization. Hardware, software, etc.

My partner has done it a couple of times - in those cases they were simply taking the card number over the phone and doing an authorization on the fly, then doing batches. We started with a product called PC Charge - it worked reasonably well for batched transactions. I'll have to dig up the details on some of the later efforts.

Update: I just chatted with my partner, and the primary change we made was to go from dial-up to internet based communication - we started doing it in 1996 before the Internet was very pervasive. He seems to think the PC Charge software works pretty well - it's essentially an ActiveX control as I understand it. You can read about it at http://www.gosoftware.com/.

Wendell,

Thanks, I'll give it a look-see. This would be for a retail sales operation, so on-line authorization would be a must.

Mark,
Bank of America supplied my company with the software for online authorization and settlements.
