    Edit an Edit!

    Can I edit an edit?
After posting something, I needed to edit it, so I click the Edit Post button, typed my edit and re-posted it! Then I wanted to edit the edit (figure that!!!!). When I clicked the Edit Post Button again, my original edit does not display so I can edit it. Is it a matter of simply typing another edit which replaces the original, or can it not be done?
    Regards,
    Rudi

    Re: Edit an Edit!

This is just a curiosity, Rudi. Was it perchance the post in Scuttlebutt about American trivia? If so, I wonder if the fact that I was in the midst of replying to it could have caused your glitch. I've edited posts multiple times and never had a problem. I think I'll go to the Test board and try one just to see...

    Re: Edit an Edit!

Are you sure that you clicked Edit Post and didn't use your browser's Back button? Clicking Edit Post should always let you edit the current (most recently posted) version of a post. Or perhaps you clicked Edit Post too quickly after posting the previous edit...

    Re: Edit an Edit!

No. It was a post on the Puzzles board. Hans made a valid suggestion, and I wanted to delete the Edit I made prior to his suggestion. No need to test BigAl, nothing wrong with the pages!

OK. Well, I already played around in Test, so maybe someone will enjoy reading the poem. It was a "reading" I was asked to do at a recent Veteran's Day parade and commemorative ceremony. Test board posts expire pretty quickly anyway, so I'll just leave it up.

See attachment. I want to know if the actual edit can be modified?

Oh, OK. I thought you were talking about editing the contents of a post. I don't think the Lounge software lets you edit the reason for a previous edit. You can type a new reason, or leave the box blank.

    Re: Edit an Edit!

Do I understand correctly. You say I can type a new reason! Does that replace the old reason. And if I leave it blank, does that clear the original reason and replace it with a blank?

I don't want to test it on the original post and mess up the thread. (I suppose thats what the Test Area is for eh!!) <img src=/S/doh.gif border=0 alt=doh width=15 height=15> me!

Why don't you just try it?

Answered both by testing it in the test area. The answer to both questions is YES for any interested readers!

    Re: Edit an Edit!

As you may have discovered in your test, re-editing any post actually clears the Edit Flag and the 'Reason for Edit' Text.

    Re: Edit an Edit!

I had forgotten how it works and was fooling around with my test post too. Now I remember why I don't ever use that feature, but instead I usually put in an "edited" note manually so it will always be there as a reminder.

    Re: Edit an Edit!

Hmmm, that is a good idea. At least it will allow changes and additional formatting too!
    Thanx for the tip!

    Re: Edit an Edit!

I use ClipMate to manage my Windows clipboard and I have a number of "standard" clips in there that I use over and over again. Several of them have to do with editing I do here in The Lounge. An example of one of them would look like this, if I edit a post:

Edited by Bigaldoc to add: Some text.

Attached is a text file with the code in case you want to copy it in some fashion. Just change the Bigaldoc to RudiS and give it a try (if you like). Obviously the "Some text" is just a placeholder.
