    SP2 firewall seting (Windows XP)

We have at work here a firewall that is in the router that is connected to the T1 line. Should the firewall for SP2 be set OFF or
ON? It "appears" that a computer with the Windows XP Firewall set as ON, works OK with email from the outside, etc., but I want to make sure we do it right as there may be some issues I am not familiar with...thanks for the help...John

If you have an IT department check with them. If you are the IT department, then I'd suggest that you install a different firewall from the XP SP-2 firewall and then disable the XP firewall. IMO, you are much better off with a multi-layer (hardware and software) defense. The XP firewall only protects from inbound problems. Any really good software firewall wil detect inbound and outbound problems. There are many third party firewalls available. Check Zonelabs & Sygate for a couple that are popular.
