USB Still powered after shutdown (XP Pro)

Strange, but some USB devices will remain powered (eg flashing) even when WinXP Shuts down my PC. The one USB Device is a USB to MIDI cable ( for musical keyboards) and the other is my Bluetooth adapter!

I also have USB Modem, Mouse, Webcam etc... these all power off.

If i turn the switch to the power supply off at the back of my machine after it shuts down then the 'problem' devices switch off. Then if i switch back the power they remain off. Wierd eh?

Is this heard of? I cant find anything in the Power settings to shed any light on this.

Also - bit of a side line here - In my device manager the USB controller is just a 'Generic USB Hub' which I guess is fine, but my board is USB 2.0 throughout. I have the latest drivers. Anything to be concerned about / connected with other problem?

Most - if not all - modern PCs remain running with auxilliary power after you 'shut down' to allow things such as 'wake on LAN' NICs and 'wake on call' modems to operate, not to mention your 'soft touch' on-off switch.
I would say this will have nothing to do with your OS (XP) but is a feature the manufacturer has built in. I doubt if it is much to worry about, but we would need to know the make and model of your computer to know if it is normal.

Ah, ok. that makes sense! Well I built my PC myself. It is the MSI K8N Neo Platinum board. I wonder if i can turn it off.

    * matz heads for the in depth manual....

You can use surge suppressor to disconnect your PC from the power line. For example, in our company undermonitor Tripp Lite Isobar Touch Master is a standard.
