Slow Calculate Excel 2003 (Excel 2003)

    All,
Have just upgraded from OfficeXP to Office2003 and have now found that a few very large and complicated spreadsheets we have now take an amazing amount of extra time to calculate - from a second to a minute. Auto calculate is on - no other settings have been changed between releases. The spreadsheets are propriety, so will be a little difficult to share if that is the only way forward. However, they contains a lot of inter-sheet calculations and drop-down lists.

Has anyone else noticed a drop in the calculate performance between releases?

Re: Slow Calculate Excel 2003 (Excel 2003)

    Hans,

Thank you very much for your links.

It looks like our Excel2003 problem is indeed with ranges. Our spreadsheets have a lot of named ranges - mainly columns or a range of columns - used by VLOOKUPs and suchlike. It seems Excel2003 now processes all cells in the range (even if empty), whereas previous versions of Excel only processed cells that were not empty. We are still testing, but this looks like our issue - the fix is to put in specific range limits. A bit of work, but an answer.

    Ken.
