    Views - Grouping (Outlook 2003)

Does anyone know how to GLOBALLY turn off Show In Groups for ALL folders and subfolders in a mailbox ?

Also if you turn off Show In Groups from Inbox, how can you also remove that Grouping from the Insert Item dialog window when you are in an email and trying to insert an item ??

Re: Views - Grouping (Outlook 2003)

NO, and NO, and it annoys me. The Object model still isn't at that level of View detail, and using

    Set cbtn = ActiveExplorer.CommandBars.FindControl(, 7627)
    cbtn.Execute

only turns them Show in Groups ON.

I'll see if I can devise a VBA SendKeys approach to the first problem, but I have no idea how the fix the second problem.

John - Cheers for this...I have done as you and Rory suggested but when I do not have MSXML v2.6 (or any other version of this file). The Outlook and Windows XP environment is straight forward out of the box...Any Suggestions ??

Re: Views - Grouping (Outlook 2003)

"MSXML, v2.6" is abbreviated, look for "Microsoft XML, v2.6". If it isn't listed, see if you can browse to it as

    C:WindowsSystem32msxml2.dll

    or possibly

    C:WINNTSystem32msxml2.dll

It's at least in default installations of XP OS with either Office XP or Office 2003. If it's not on your system at all, seach the MS Knowledgebase to see if it's an available download (possibly as part of an upgrade or security update package). HTH.

Re: Views - Grouping (Outlook 2003)

Outlook works with Views for each folder. Messages can be displayed with different views, the default being Messages (there is also Messages with AutoPreview, Last 7 Days, Sent To (used for Outbox folder). Each view can be modified to your needs - i.e., if you do not want the Messages view (which is the default for Inbox, Drafts, and new folders created) to include the Show in Groups, edit the view (View, Arrange By, Current View, Define Views), select the Messages view and choose Modify. In the Customize View dialog, click on Other Settings. Uncheck the "Show Items in Groups" option. Select OK, OK, and finally Apply View. Any view that uses the Messages view should not show the groups any longer. Hope this cleared things up a bit without using VB! Cheers... trish

Re: Views - Grouping (Outlook 2003)

    Hi Trish...

Thanks for this....it worked perfectly for one branch of a tree when I amended the Messages View but as soon as I went to another parent or sub folder all were still being shown in Groups. I have resigned myself after reading this...... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;831606 that you cannot turn off globally (which to my mind is another flaky piece of Microsoft construction !!)

Cheers for the thoughts though !!

What happens if you select the folder at the top of the information store? (I have been meaning to test this ... paid work keeps interrupting my Lounging.)

I selected the Personal Folders folder and followed this procedure, it seemed to work for every personal folder, sub-folder, etc. Thanks for the help!! Troy

Re: Views - Grouping (Outlook 2003)

    John,

I just found this code, by searching, when the frustration of trying to reset the views on hundreds of folders got too much for me.

I have tried to run the code but the function foldertree doesn't seem to be defined. Do you know what I am doing wrong?

Re: Views - Grouping (Outlook 2003)

Stuart, forget the code, select the root (top folder) of your information store, and use Trish's advice in <!post=this post,435826 >this post<!/post> within this thread. The setting is so well buried in the menus, I didn't find it, and so wrote that code unnecessarily.

For posterity, I'll fix the missing foldertree function reference.

Re: Views - Grouping (Outlook 2003)

    John,

I had already tried that setting, even before I searched for a solution. It doesn't seem to work the way I would have expected. Even though I have the "Messages" view selected for many folders, some of them seem to have "Show in groups" and others don't!

That did exactly what I wanted - after I replaced a couple of backward ` characters with the correct ' on the first 2 comments.

Apparently an evil demon hides within my copy of Notepad. Certainly -I- would never have made such an error. <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>
